2003 Winners
The 2002-2003 Paydirt program was another success
story in the State of Texas. With the addition this
year of the Subaru Trail Doctors, Ryan Spates and Susan
Stormer, the word about paydirt was well advertised
at each of the spring races. The paydirt program has
been instrumental in opening new trail throughout the
state, as well as continuing to show land managers
that the mountain bike community is willing and able
to help keep the trails open! This year, 343 mountain
bikers took part in the program, logging an impressive
5183.25 hours on 75 different public and private properties.
Once again Bicycle Sport Shop donated prizes for the
raffle, which took place at Broken Oak in May. Bicycles
Outback stepped up to the plate to donate prizes for
the juniors 14 & under that completed their 3-5
hours of trailwork also. The big winner of the day
was Rick Morris who walked away with a brand new Specialized
Epic S-Works Frame thanks to Bicycle Sport Shop. Work
has already begun for credit towards the 2004 Spring
Championship Series, so in this down time from racing,
break out that McCloed and go fix that washed out trail
down at the local park!! Congratulations to all the
winners!

2002 Winners
The
Texas Mountain Bike Association is proud to announce
the winners of the Bicycle Sport Shop paydirt program
for 2002. The top prize, a Santa Cruz Superlight
frame, won by Chuck Venable, was the envy of all
the racers, followed closely by Marty Garza, who
walked away with the Rock Shox Duke Race fork. In
all there were 57 prizes raffled off, with the big
winners, Mark Henneke and the Sollenberger family,
winning numerous prizes with the completion of over
250 combined hours!
For
each 5 hours a participant logs after the initial
10, their name goes into the raffle pot again, the
more you work, the better your chances are of winning.
The paydirt program, now in its 5th year, has continued
to award racers that complete 10 hours of trail work
to earn first place finish points in the 2002 Subaru
Championship Series. This year, 362 racers participated,
logging 4,816.2 hours at 59 different properties
in Texas that included state, county and city parks,
private ranches, YMCA camps, and national forests.
Thanks to the Bicycle Sport Shop paydirt program,
the quality and quantity of Texas trails continues
to grow and improve as land managers recognize the
positive impact of the mountain bike community in
Texas.
Racers
are already logging hours for the 2003 series, having
a full year to complete their ten hours. The great
thing about the program is that you don't even have
to race to participate; anyone doing trail work can
qualify to win next year's cool prizes.
