The previous post concerning ibuprofin, aspirin and platelets reminded me of a question I've had before: Is there any way that a daily aspirin regimen for heart health could affect the oxygen-carrying function of blood (since aspirin is a blood "thinner")? Probably far fetched, I know, but it's something that's puzzled me for a while. |

cxgeezer:
In a word: No. Asprin does not affect oxygen binding to and release from hemoglobin in the low dose use in one a day taken to help protect the heart. High dose or over dose asprin leading to acidosis from the asprin toxicity does affect the hemoglobin binding of oxygen, the acid state leads to less binding of oxygen to the hemoglobin. But that is not a state you would be in with low dose once a day aspirin.
