Hey Doc,
Remember sewing up my knee in your kitchen after a crash during a wet fall race several years ago? Well I sliced open the same knee again at Broken Oak. 9 stitches, 2 on the inside, 7 on the outside. It's been almost 48 hours now and the area around the cut is still noticable warmer than else where. Most of the time it feels like it is burning a little. It is NOT red and ugly, or oozing or otherwise infected looking. Is it just the extra blood flow to heal it causing the warmth?
I know if it gets icky like it is infected to have it checked but so far it still looks good.
Thanks, Debbie |

Debbie:
Keep a close eye on the wound. There will be increase blood flow from the healing process that will make it feel warmer. If any of the other symptoms, that you so well described develop, get immediate medical attention. If you develop a flushing red rash to your body, elevated pulse, light headedness these are signs of a rare complication that received much press about 15 years ago, Toxic Shock Syndrome. TSS can be associated with wounds (not just super absorbant tampons) and the wound may only look a little red and feel warm without any copious discharge.
