Scott Schaefer, Allen Sronce (Bluff Creek Ranch Manager) and I were all at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda today assessing the trail conditions. Scott and Allen did drainage work. We received 0.4 inches of rain today on top of 5.3 inches of rain received in the last 7 days (total 5.7 inches). Overall, the trails were in good condition, with some areas requiring drainage channels rework and one area where we will lay additional concrete paving stones this week. There is a plan for adjusting the course if there are sections that are too muddy to race on without damaging the trail severely or bogging the bikes severely. We will keep you posted as the trails shape up and the weather unfolds. Plans are to have the Warda Race as schedule with trail adjustments as appropriate.

Trails currently are closed for riding due to the current wet condition but one full day of no rain will get them opened again for pre-riding. Check the ranch website www.bcrwarda.com for updates and call the ranch 979-242-5894 before you come out to pre-ride to check the hippy dippy weather man report (we stick our head outside and see whats happening).

Remember during race weekends, dogs are welcome but must be on leashes at all times.
ALL THE TIME at Bluff Creek Ranch, BUTT ON BIKE, HELMET ON HEAD! I tried to save young man's life who decided to take a short ride without a helmet when he was not racing at another location; he rode 1 block on gravel road down from the hotel and went down head first. He did not make it. If you are caught without a a helmet on your head and your are on the bike, you can be disqualified from the race by USA Cycling rules (even when you are not in the race at the time) and you may be asked to leave the ranch.
Quite Time at 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, music, radios loud carousing must be shut down. There will be plenty of time for noise making during the daytime at the races.
No bare ground fires. Fire rings must be used. There are only a limited number of fire rings on the property so if you have a portable fire ring, bring it AND you must have readily available water source to put out the fire. NO unattended fires.

See our website for more details of rules and to get waivers of liability for minors whose parents or guardians must sign with the minor if they will not be with them at the race. www.bcrwarda.com

Thanks,

12 May 2019 07:30:

The sun is out in Warda, we are opening the trails at Bluff Creek Ranch. The "The Pass" and "Mule Trace" are too muddy to ride up and down so we will route riders across "Henry" the ford of Pin Oak creek. You will get muddy and will need the bike wash when you are done riding. We have plenty of hot water in the people wash so bring a change of clothes and towels to clean up after your ride.

Thanks,

Owner, Bluff Creek Ranch

Sunday and Monday there was no rain at Bluff Creek Ranch, Monday the cours has more to dry out and riders have been out, with much less mud on their bikes than Sunday. Current projected for cast from Weather.com
https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/5ed61a9500315ef8845a87438bea367294d268e46debc192fc1facf5c3e2a2cc

We have wet course contingency plans ready and will adjust the course based on the trail and weather conditions with the goal to keep the lap times and race times in the TMBRA and USA cycling guidelines. Wet trail = slower average speed, which will lead us to change to a shorter course with avoiding the wettest sections of the trail. If Pin Oak Creek is running more than 12 inches deep, the lower section of the course of Gas Pass, The Pass, Mule Trace, the Hay Meadow, the Hay Filed and PayDirt Bridge will be pulled out of the course and the course will be run on the top side of the property. We are continually working on the trail and making modifications to work with the weather and trail conditions.

Thank you, hardy racers, who are sticking it out during this wet season! Remember it is MOUNTAIN BIKE RACING. Sometimes it rains in them mountains.

Thanks,

Owner Bluff Creek Ranch, Warda, TX

The course has dried out nicely over the last 4 days. There has been no measurable rain since Saturday 5/11/2019. There was no mud on the bike or tires on a rider who was out on Tuesday 5/114/2019 after riding the full course including The Pass and Mule Trace. Saturdays weather is calling for thunderstorms in the afternoon and clearing out on Sunday with chance of rain dropping to 20% on Sunday. If the weather holds on Saturday we will use the full course (shorter course for the juniors). We will reassess the course Sunday morning and make adjustments for trail conditions for rain. We are in much better shape now then we were a week ago.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Thursday 16 May 2019 16:50 (4:50 PM) Update:
5 days of no rain, trails have dried out nicely. All trails are mowed. PayDirt helpers Bryan Thiel (Paydirt Admisttrator) and his son Maddex were out today and put in 5 hours of pay dirt, they trimmed the eye pokers and built a new bridge and water diversion over the wet, muddy section on Indy Loop. The bikes riders are coming off the trail without their bikes or butts all muddy. Allen, our ranch manager, took the DR Brush Mower to all the trails yesterday and cleared out all the derailleur nailers and ankle slappers. The Course is in GREAT shape. Accuweather report https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/warda-tx/78945/weekend-weather/2106976 has taken rain out of Thursday, Friday and Sunday but there is 80% chance for late Saturday afternoon thunderstorms. So Saturdays morning races should be dry and fast. We are praying we are in the 20% of the area that does not get the thunderstorms, please pray along with us. If there is rain Saturday afternoon, the trails are in better shape with the 5 going on 6 days of no rain that they can handle some new rain. We will assess the trail conditions Sunday morning early and make any adjustments based on the conditions and review any changes at the racer meetings. Temperatures are in the low 70s to mid to upper 80s for the weekend so good for racing.

Thank you for sticking it out with us and BIG THANK YOU to all those who have been out helping work with us this week to recover from the last two weeks of heavy rains.

17 May 2019 19:00 (7:00 PM) Update:

Another dry day at Warda and the course for the Warda Race is dried out but is not dusty. The rain chances are calling for Saturday afternoon thunderstorms 80% and dropping to 20% chance of rain on Sunday. Saturday's races should dodge the afternoon thunderstorms. Sunday, we will assess the course and make adjustments if need to avoid muddy sections. This will be discussed in the racer meetings. We have gone 6+ days of no rain and so there will be ground absorption of the rain that comes down and less run off than when we were previously enduring two weeks of rain. The race IS ON. Come on out and make the best of what comes. There is still plenty of camping spaces, area hotels/motels are close to full, so you may have to go a few towns over to find something.

Thanks,

Owner Bluff Creek Ranch, Warda, TX

18 May 19:10 (7:10 PM) update: No measurable rain at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda today. There was a late afternoon sprinkle that lasted about 1 minute. Riders are out on the course pre-riding and their bikes are coming off the course without any mud. The rain chances have dropped to 10 to 25% over the next 24 hours (75 to 90% chance it will not rain) on the hourly forecast at weather.com https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/5ed61a9500315ef8845a87438bea367294d268e46debc192fc1facf5c3e2a2cc. So far there are no planned changes on the race course.

ALLERT! There was a theft at the ranch today of credit cards that were stolen from an unattended purse. Keep your valuables in hand or locked in a secured place. This happened during the awards ceremony when a purse was put down to take pictures of the awards. An opportunistic thief took advantage of the distraction. It is shame that someone filtered into the wonderful mountain biking community. PLEASE be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity to ranch and race personnel.

Thanks,

Owner, Bluff Creek Ranch

Look like this happened on Saturday as well (credit card stolen), I can't believe that we have thieves in our MTB community, very sad.

This happened to me as well. I'd like to all combine our info and get it to the local authorities to see if we can get these people busted.
