|
|
I fell riding the other day and slammed the inside of my ankle on my crank. Didn't hurt too much at first but starting killing me later. It's swollen and the slightest touch is extremely painful. I almost cried taking my sock of a few minutes ago. I doesn't hurt to stand and if I walk carefully it's not too bad. Bone bruise? If it were broken could I walk on it? |

Lenny:
My apollogies for the delay in response, I have been on the road for the last four days. If your ankle is still quite tender think broken bone. Even a hair line crack in the bone is still a break and requires a period of immobilization and rest to heal. If it is doing better and the swelling is down, then more likely a contusion (bruise). So if you are still quite tender and swollen, get thee to a doctor for further evaluation and possible X-rays.

Thanks for the response. I don't know what's going on with it. It gets a little better then worse than better.... It's been a week and the swelling is down about 50% but it kind of comes and goes. It's not as tender but still hurts like a SOB if I hit it. I bumped it with a flip flop tonight and it was excruciating. I might have to break down and go visit my ortho. |

Having experienced a broken ankle a few years back, unlike Slick Willy, I truely feel your pain. I hurt for a good two weeks after the original injury. On the initial exam the doc thought it was not broken but the radiologist picked up a small hairline fracture on the films of my ankle the doc did no see and I had to go back in and get a cast. With the degree of pain you are still having, a fracture (a break) is highly suspect. Get thee to thine orthopod. _________________ Paul K. Nolan, MD

Thanks. Doc. |
